Automotive

The Nurburgring is a special place, located in the town of Nurburg, Germany, the race track can trace its history back to the 1920s. The circuit today has three configurations, the Grand Prix Circuit, the Nordschleife (North Loop) and the combined circuit. The combined circuit measures 15.7 miles, has 170 turns, over 1,000 feet of elevation change and is the longest race track in the world, it’s also one of the most dangerous.

Automobile manufacturers have been using the Nordschleife for decades as a test track and proving ground for their fastest, most capable models. And here are the fruits of their labors, the fastest street-legal cars to lap the devilish course. If you want to beat the Nurburgring, you have to have a car with power, handling and a ton of grip.

Porsche 991.2 GT2 RS

As we’ve said before, enough is never enough for Porsche. This car manufacturer will constantly look for new developments that would enable their cars to push older limits. When no new technology exists, they’ll simply take what they have and squeeze even more out of it. This is exactly what the automaker did with the 991.2 GT2 RS. Just imagine taking an already powerful GT3 RS, and adding an additional 200 horsepower to it. This was exactly the result of Porsche’s effort.

This version of the 991 is the strongest one there is, and boasts a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter flat six-cylinder engine that produces 690-horsepower. This kind of force made the almighty GT2 RS reach 2nd fastest lap by a street-legal car, at just 6:47.25. Not bad at all.
